What remains of faith when Heaven refuses to answer?

Set in a double Benedictine monastery in Bavaria around 1520, Deus Absconditus follows a deeply religious monk whose discovery of a hidden manuscript begins to dismantle the certainty upon which his life was built.

Across eleven chapters, sacred ritual collides with forbidden thought, desire, fear and silence. The institution can erase a name, condemn a body and seal a book away. The question survives.

Artist bio

Ravenlore is a symphonic gothic metal project created by composer, lyricist and producer Vinicius Reis, drawing from the dark, orchestral tradition of late-'90s and early-2000s gothic and symphonic metal.

Heavy guitars, orchestral arrangements, violin, layered clean and harsh vocals, female soprano voices and haunting atmospheres shape music concerned with melancholy, mysticism, faith and inner conflict.

The seven visual members are fictional personas who embody the voices and instruments of Ravenlore.

Historical atmosphere and creative process

The album's visual and historical atmosphere draws in part from Pentiment. Its portrayal of early-sixteenth-century Bavaria helped shape a world of scriptoria, monasteries, forbidden knowledge and institutions under pressure.

Concept, narrative, lyrics, musical direction and visual direction are led by Vinicius Reis. Generative AI tools are used as part of the music and visual production process, under that creative direction. The visual ensemble is fictional.
