The beginning

Where the lore began

The debut album that established Ravenlore's identity.

Ravenlore weaves heavy guitars, orchestral arrangements, layered vocals and haunting atmospheres into a world of melancholy and mysticism.

Across eight songs, the album moves through endings, transformation, shadow, regret, night, memory and the mythology of Ravenlore itself. It lays the musical foundation for the project: beauty beside brutality, the sacred beside the profane, and inner conflict given a symphonic gothic form.

Tracklist

Eight songs

The complete first chapter.

  1. Artwork for Summus Finis
    01Summus Finis

The album begins at the end of life, only to return through death into the endless cycle of life, death and rebirth. The title also appears on Carl Orff's tombstone, taken from the conclusion of De temporum fine comoedia, his final major work.

  2. Artwork for The Serpent's Apotheosis
    02The Serpent's Apotheosis

One of the last songs completed for the album, inspired by the orchestral complexity and beauty of Therion. It explores serpentine wisdom in esoteric traditions: knowledge and temptation, enlightenment and corruption, forbidden understanding and the price of transcending human limits.

  3. Artwork for Dance of Shadows
    03Dance of Shadows

The first Ravenlore song I completed. Its lyrics follow a woman who bathes in blood to reclaim her beauty and life force, drawing openly from the legends surrounding Elizabeth Báthory.

  4. Artwork for Beyond Regret
    04Beyond Regret

A song about remorse left behind by past relationships and the acceptance that the past cannot be changed. There is no plea for reconciliation or another chance, only the decision to carry the burden while life continues.

  5. Artwork for Embrace of Nyx
    05Embrace of Nyx

A chant and hymn to Nyx, goddess of the night. Its mythological atmosphere again reflects the influence of Therion and the worlds Christofer Johnsson has explored across the band's albums.

  6. Artwork for Remembrance
    06Remembrance

A simple violin interlude for those we loved and have lost. It divides the album into two parts, offering a quiet minute to remember times of joy and sorrow. The title also honours Remembrance, the debut album by Silent Cry, a band whose influence on my life is immense.

  7. Artwork for Ravenlore
    07Ravenlore

The central song of the album gathers the myths behind the Raven's lore and the core ideas of the project. The Raven guides lost souls toward the other realm, helping them cross the threshold and find peace.

  8. Artwork for Unholy
    08Unholy

The album closes in a completely different direction. After the epic and ultimately hopeful tone of “Ravenlore”, “Unholy” becomes a cruel, vile lullaby. Slavic and Icelandic folk traditions frame a horror tale about a child cursed by evil forces, strange and deliberately unlike anything else on the album.
